I’m Rob, and I am (often) happiest when I’m behind a camera, a microphone or a keyboard.

I have the privilege of visiting some brilliant makers around Britain who dedicate their time, skill and expertise to producing fabulous things.

As the general public, we usually only see the finished product, and it is easy to take the hard work behind it for granted.

Throughout my career in communications I have been lucky enough to step inside manufacturing environments, bustling kitchens, factories, farms and quiet workshops to experience firsthand where incredible people collaborate.

Before We Open is my way of drawing on years of telling the stories of others.

It is a space to shine a spotlight on the makers themselves and the frequently hidden places where something truly special is created.

Whether that happens to be inside an independent bakery, a local coffee roastery or a neighbourhood florist, this project is all about celebrating the people behind the craft.

I am incredibly grateful to be able to share these stories with you.
